Arts and materials
The square Automne box, alongside its round and rectangular versions, is made in earthenware.
A family-run workshop based in northern Italy since 1967 has been trusted with their production, as their expertise guarantees both quality and durability.
The pieces are first cast and then demolded by hand, they are then fired twice. Finally the paint is airbrushed onto the base and details are added to the lid by hand.
The Automne box boasts a brown lid with a glossy finish and a duck green base with a matt finish. This combination of textures creates an elegant interplay of materials and colors, giving this entire set of boxes a sophisticated and timeless character.
Inspiration
To create the Automne box set, Cristina Celestino drew her inspiration from the color palette found in Henri Matisse's Intérieur aux Aubergines painting (1911), more specifically the duck green and terracotta tints found in the background and around the windows.

For the permanent collection Intérieur aux aubergines, Maison Matisse was inspired by Henri Matisse's eponymous painting from 1911 and collaborated with the Italian designer Cristina Celestino. This choice seemed self-evident. The designer’s world is perfectly adapted to that of the artist’s painting in this particularly decorative canvas where the planes deeply superimpose each other.
