This pendant lighting is part of the limited edition Fold collection, inspired by Henri Matisse's work on paper cut-outs and imagined in collaboration with the Italian design duo Formafantasma.

Although it has a reasonable size, our hanging pendant light is a design piece with a strong character, which will sublimate any type of interior, from living room to bedroom.

Its clean metal lines, coupled with the lightness of the paper sheet slipped between them, give this lamp a unique and modern look.

With its adjustable intensity, the Fold suspension evolves throughout the day, going from a reception light to a design ambient lighting.

Arts and materials

The creation of this piece was entrusted to six different craftsmen, each bringing a specialized, complex and innovative know-how.

The metal that constitutes this lamp was first cut using laser technology, achieving a very high level of precision.

After being cut and shaped to reflect the drawing imagined by the designers, the metal is polished and cleaned several times by hand by an expert, to remove the last imperfections of the material, before being protected by a thin layer of varnish.

The paint is then sprayed on, requiring up to 10 successive coats to sublimate the color and obtain the desired effect. A final coat of varnish completes the rendering of the metal, whose unique brilliance offers spectacular depth effects.

Finally, the different elements of the lamp are assembled by hand, the LED light source is carefully placed, and the paper sheet only needs to be slipped on.

Inspiration

Maison Matisse, by giving carte blanche to Formafantasma, offered them to immerse themselves in the world of Henri Matisse.

Inspired by the prolific period of paper cut-outs, the design duo offers a masterful piece with the Fold suspension.

Paying homage to the artist's creative thinking, who would paint, cut and assemble pieces of paper to create spectacular works, Formafantasma chose to start with several sheets of paper, cutting and assembling them to scale until a final piece was obtained.

Expressing themselves through the creation of a light fixture, not a canvas like Matisse, they choose iron in the form of a sheet to best convey the impression of lightness of paper, while contrasting it with a real sheet.
