Arts and materials

Crafted by an Italian artisan based near Manzano for over 50 years, the Lierre side table requires precise manufacturing.

Multiple handcrafted treatments temper and mattify the wood and metal, fulfilling Faye Toogood's desire to infuse the pieces with a certain idea of "comfort", reflecting the luxurious interiors depicted in Henri Matisse's work.

The side table is available in two colors: brushed stainless steel or matte brown paint.

Inspiration

For the Lierre side table, Faye Toogood has chosen to reinterpret the leaf motif found in the artwork to create the metal base.

Crafted from a single tubular piece, it echoes the trace of Matisse's pen on paper.

This side table / stool comes in two base finishes: brushed stainless steel or matte brown. While the stainless steel recalls the blank spaces left on the paper in Matisse's work, the brown hue echoes the warm color of pure fil vellum paper. The wood grain is left visible and appears as a subtle texture.

A playful element: one can discover an H and an M in the base's pattern, depending on the viewing angle.

Faye Toogood

Maison Matisse invited the British designer Faye Toogood to interpret a work in black Indian ink on white paper from Henri Matisse's book Dessins: Thèmes et Variations (1943). The result is a series of furniture pieces (armchairs in curly wool, coffee tables and side tables in wood and metal), several hand-knotted or tufted Himalayan wool rugs, and a merino wool and mohair throw.
