Our Fold floor lamp is part of the eponymous collection, created in collaboration with the Italian design duo Formafantasma.

A real piece of character, with its stature and modern design, the floor lamp reveals itself differently from every angle of view and confers a unique atmosphere to any type of interior.

With its adjustable intensity, this floor lamp can be used as a central or ambient light, and depending on its location in the room, will give a completely different impression.

Arts and materials

The creation of this piece was entrusted to six different craftsmen, each bringing a specialized, complex and innovative know-how.

The metal that constitutes this lamp was first cut using laser technology, achieving a very high level of precision.

After being cut and shaped to reflect the drawing imagined by the designers, the metal is polished and cleaned several times by hand by an expert, to remove the last imperfections of the material, before being protected by a thin layer of varnish.

The paint is then sprayed on, requiring up to 10 successive coats to sublimate the color and obtain the desired effect. A final coat of varnish completes the rendering of the metal, whose unique brilliance offers spectacular depth effects.

Finally, the different elements of the lamp are assembled by hand, the LED light source is carefully placed, and the paper sheet only needs to be slipped on.

Inspiration

Formafantasma propose with “Fold”, the first collection of lights by Maison Matisse, created in homage to the poetry and cheerfulness of the painter's work.

Inspired by Henri Matisse's Cut-outs, the designers imitated the painter's gesture by cutting paper with a ruler and a blade, where Matisse used scissors.

The duo then worked with volume models, like the painter who, bedridden after a major operation, assembled his monumental works by pinning the colored papers directly to the walls of his studio.

The Formafantasma reach here a creative as well as technical prowess, by choosing to use several metal plates to contrast and answer the paper slipped between them.
