Description

The Tenture hallway rug is an exceptional piece of work by the Nepalese artisans of CC-carpet, who have an ancestral know-how handed down from generation to generation. Hand-knotted from Himalayan wool, it is distinguished by its undyed yarns, which give it a unique raw and natural texture. Created by British designer Faye Toogood for the Esquisses collection, it is inspired by black and white drawings by Henri Matisse to create an elegant and timeless composition. A large decorative object, it is capable of transforming the atmosphere of any room.

The Tenture rug is an ideal choice to add a touch of elegance to your spaces. It can be used as a centrepiece in an entranceway to draw attention to this sometimes forgotten space, or one of your hallways to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, drawing the boundaries of your rooms and giving a sense of calm and serenity. With its timeless design, this hallway rug will suit all styles of decoration, from minimalist and modern to more traditional interiors.

The Tenture hallway rug is a striking decorative accessory that combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design. With its inspiration from the world of Henri Matisse and its raw, natural texture, it is a perfect choice to bring a touch of art and elegance to your interior design.

Maintenance advice
Maison Matisse recommends vacuuming carpets at least once a week. Hand-knotted carpets can be professionally cleaned. Do not dry clean them. During the first few months, the carpet will "shed" some fibres or lint, which is only natural, the more the carpet is used, the sooner this will end. An underlay is recommended for all our carpets to prevent them from slipping. Prolonged exposure of the products to direct sunlight may alter the colour of the pieces.

Arts and materials

The Tenture carpets are hand-knotted by Tibetan artisans from the renowned Italian manufacturer CC-tapis. Designed in their ancestral workshops located in Nepal, the Tenture rugs have 89,000 individual knots per square meter.

Hand-knotting is an extremely fine and complex production technique that gives Maison Matisse's rugs exceptional quality. The wool comes from Himalayan sheep in Tibet.

Hand-knotted, thread by thread, knot by knot, this carpet is a truly unique piece made entirely of Himalayan wool, known for its exceptional resistance. The CC-carpet workshops follow a set of environmentally friendly rules at every stage of production, whether it be the choice of indigenous Himalayan wools, the use of filtered rainwater, and above all the abolition of the use of any chemical or artificial product.

Inspiration

In the same way that Matisse repeatedly interpreted the subjects of his still life, Faye Toogood interprets here the motif of the line, taken from the tapestry present in the background of one of the drawings from Matisse's book "Drawings: Theme and Variation" (1943).

The multiple freehand drawings thus become the motif of the carpets. Echoing Matisse's choice to leave empty spaces in his drawings, revealing the blank paper, the off-white of the carpet becomes a color that Faye Toogood has chosen to use through un-dyed wool threads.

Faye Toogood

Maison Matisse invited the British designer Faye Toogood to interpret a work in black Indian ink on white paper from Henri Matisse's book Dessins: Thèmes et Variations (1943). The result is a series of furniture pieces (armchairs in curly wool, coffee tables and side tables in wood and metal), several hand-knotted or tufted Himalayan wool rugs, and a merino wool and mohair throw.
