Fenêtre Trio Vase

Vases en céramique et métal

Designer: Ronan Et Erwan Bouroullec

Description

Maison Matisse owes the Trio Window vase to its collaboration with a talented French design duo: Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec.

Starting with the "decorations and colors” theme found in Henri Matisse’s work, the two designers were able to work in complete freedom, thus choosing another major theme in the painter's work, the open window, to conceive a series of 3 limited edition vases.

The overall ensemble is composed of three elements allowing for different arrangements of the vases.

Limited series of 8 pieces + 4 artist's proofs

Each piece is numbered and signed by the designer, Maison Matisse, and the craftsman.

Arts and materials

The trio window vase consists of three elements playing on shapes and materials in an attempt to get closer to nature, like in Henri Matisse’s paintings.

The three stoneware vases, entirely cast and demolded by hand, feature color gradients that were obtained after several successive series of glazes.

The vases rest on a terracotta ledge made in an old French tile factory with unique know-how. It is made of Chamotte clay with a raw look, and has a matte glaze that protects the material from stains.

An anodized aluminum plate completes the set as the background, creating a symbolic window open to the outside.

This metal plate was cut with a water jet, then soaked in six different baths like in film photography. The objective was to develop shades of blue and azure that were as close as possible to the color of the sky.

The Trio Window vase is the result of the meticulous work carried out by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec's over nearly five years to obtain a handcrafted look from a purely industrial process.

Inspiration

The duo of designers, inspired by the pictorial work of Matisse and more precisely his open window theme, presents a very personal tribute to the painter.

Shapes and materials are combined here to create an object with a singular visual character.

As the eye rests on the three vases in the foreground, it naturally moves towards this opening to the outside in search of the symbolic, vibrant and changing light.
